Now with even less Google: Apple removes YouTube app from iOS 6

With Google Maps getting the boot earlier this summer, Apple continues to scrub as much of the search giant’s services as possible from iOS. The Verge has Apple’s statement on the news:

Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.

This isn’t that big of a deal. The original YouTube app came at a time when the website’s videos were all in flash. YouTube’s current mobile site is superior to the iOS app in almost every way. One less icon cluttering up the home screen, but the same access to YouTube’s content.
